LICHFIELD DISTRICT CRIME
PREVENTION PANEL
What is the Panel?
Lichfield District Crime Prevention Panel covers an area that includes the
whole of the administrative area covered by Lichfield District Council
(Lichfield and Chasetown Local Policing Units).
It consists of local people from all walks of life who have an interest in
crime prevention and community safety in their area.
We are not a police panel, but two or three police officers do sit on the
panel. Their role is to act as technical experts and to advise and inform
us about local crime and trends, so that we can analyse these crimes and
suggest practical solutions, based on our local knowledge and experience.
Aims:
We are concerned with developing local solutions to local problems. Our
aims could be defined as:
-
To identify the main crime
problems within our area and with the support of the community, develop
solutions.
-
To encourage initiatives
designed to reduce the fear of crime.
-
To discourage crime by raising
awareness of it throughout our community.
-
To foster working partnerships
with organisations throughout our community in order to establish a joint
commitment to crime prevention/community safety.
-
To work closely with the
Lichfield District Safer Community Partnership in any appropriate action
planning set by the Community Safety Strategy for the District.
Activities:
Our activities include: -
(a) hosting seminars dealing
with particular issues e.g. distraction burglary, combating shoplifting,
credit card fraud, drugs awareness etc.
(b) taking the crime prevention message out into our community via the
Exhibition Trailer.
(c) arranging property and cycle marking schemes.
(d) organising fund raising events to support the initiatives of the Panel
(we are not directly funded).
(e) in conjunction with our partners organising initiatives to combat
vehicle crime.
(f) arranging drug awareness presentations to local schools
Meetings:
Meetings of the Panel are held at the District Council House, Lichfield
(free parking is available) and commence at 6.30 p.m. They are usually
held on Thursdays and we meet approximately 8 times per calendar year. No
meetings are held in August or December.
